Prepaid and Debit Cards
Debit cards allow you to withdraw cash, make purchases, and access account information. Unlike credit cards, funds are drawn down from a bank account or prepaid balance on the card each time you make a purchase or withdraw cash.
Prepaid debit cards are debit cards you purchase for a fixed amount. These work in the same way debit cards tied to bank accounts do, except that purchases and cash withdrawals are drawn down from the prepaid balance on the card, rather than the balance of your bank account. You can reload most prepaid cards with more money at participating retailers and at select kiosks.
A prepaid or debit card is a good choice for you and your small business if:
- You tend to overspend
- You want to control your spending by staying below pre-deposited amounts
- You have struggled with credit card debt in the past
